Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Rendered with rough and gestural handling in blunt pencil, these sketches depict the Marienburg at the upper register and three other landscapes orientated inversely. Beneath the sketch of the castle there is an inscription reading ‘½ H 4 by WNW’: most likely a co-ordinate.
