With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with loose studies of the coastal terrain buildings which he encountered as he travelled around the Cotentin Peninsula of Normandy. Running vertically up the right-hand side of the page are sketched women’s heads dressed in the towering local style.
