Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this slight sketch is one of four showing the cliffs of Cliviger Gorge (see under folio 37 verso; D01972). This one may include, at top left, the distinctive beaky cliff of Eagle’s Crag above Cornholme, about two miles south east of Holme Chapel. The other drawings of the Gorge are folios 39 verso and 40 verso (D01976, D01978); that on D01972 is another candidate for a view of Eagle’s Crag.
