With the page turned vertically, in the outer half are two coastal views separated by a horizontal pencil line. The upper shows cliffs with distant buildings receding round a bay to the left, with slight details in the foreground including what may be a vehicle or wheeled cannon; it is unclear whether the tower and other details indicated to the right are part of the same view or a different aspect. Below are cliffs receding to the right round a bay with a small structure in the foreground. See the sketchbook’s Introduction for the many slight coastal views scattered through it.
Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
