Made with the page turned horizontally, this is one of a sequence of studies featuring the silhouette of Caernarvon Castle as seen from the Menai Strait; the others are on folios 49 verso, 50 verso, 51 recto and 54 recto (D02069, D02071, D02072, D02077). This example includes in the background the outline of the Snowdon range, a feature suppressed in the rest of the group. A further study showing part of the castle is on folio 55 verso (D02080).
