Here Turner pictures the Burg Reichenstein overlooking the Rhine in Germany. Like the nearby Burg Rheinstein, a castle situated less than a mile upstream, Burg Reichenstein was the property of the Electors of Mainz (see Tate D30654; Turner Bequest CCCIV 12a).
