This gouache and pencil sketch shows a number of buildings in a rocky landscape. These structures crowd around the summits of two hills. On the hill in the foreground the houses, which rise to three or four storeys, are packed closely together. The hill in the background appears to be topped by a fortified defensive structure. Surrounding these hills are mountainous peaks that stretch out into the distance.
