This is a sheet from the Brocklesby Mausoleum sketchbook, of which seven pages survive, disbound; see under Tate D05159 (Turner Bequest LXXXIII 1). Here the general view of the hill on which the mausoleum is built shows the broad drive that winds across the foreground and up to the summit, where it is surrounded by the taller trees with which Turner frames the two closer views of the building, D05159 and D05160 (Turner Bequest LXXXIII 2). This is apparently the sketch on which a larger treatment of the same subject (Tate D08277; Turner Bequest CXXI U), was based.
