It seems likely that Turner copied this subject from a drawing by Edward Dayes (1763–1804) or Thomas Girtin (1775–1802); that artist may in turn have taken it from a sketch by an amateur such as James Moore (1762–1799).1
The verso is D41450 (Turner Bequest CCCLXXIX 3 v).
