This is a more detailed treatment, from a similar viewpoint, of the sketch on folios 10 verso–11 recto (D21991, D21992). On the far left, in summary outline, is the Woodstock Gate, with Blenheim Palace to the south, beyond the wooded slopes around Queen Pool. The subject continues across folio 12 recto opposite (D21994), with the Grand Bridge among trees to the south-west. Of the views of the park beginning on folio 4 verso (D21981), Andrew Wilton and Eric Shanes have related the present double-page study to Turner’s subsequent watercolour (see under folio 12 verso; D21995).1
For other views of Blenheim, see under folio 2 verso (D21978).
