This sketch, composed of relatively complex application of ochre, rose, and blue watercolour, is concerned with capturing the modulation of light and colour across a landscape. Towards the lower right corner of the sheet a row of tall trees is reflected in a river or lake that continues left across the lower register. The view may have been taken close to a comparable scene from the sketchbook; see D35446 (Turner Bequest CCCLIX 11).
Verso:
Blank; except for patches of watercolour.
