Another view of the model in this pose is on the following page, folio 6 recto (D01822; Turner Bequest XLIII 6); it makes clear that the right hand is grasping a staff, which supports the right arm. This is one of a sequence of life studies between folios 1 recto and 14 recto (D01816–D01826, D01828, D01829; Turner Bequest XLIII 2, 3, 3a, 4–7, 1, 8–10, 12, 13).
