Catalogued by A.J. Finberg among drawings of about 1795,1 this sheet is not obviously part of the Margate sequence listed in the present group. However, it seems to belong technically to the year 1796, and in its preoccupation with the interrelationship of sea and shore it coheres with the other works described here. It is however less immediate in its effect, a cooler and more impersonal account of its subject which may have been derived from a drawing or print by another artist.
