Martin Butlin and Evelyn Joll suggest that this study was used for the left-hand cow in the oil painting Sketch of a Bank, with Gipsies, probably exhibited in Turner’s gallery in 1809 (Tate N00467);1 see also folio 10 recto (D03731).
