With the page turned horizontally, the subject appears to be a small bay with a building by the shore on the left. Turner’s inscription is uncertain, and the subject is too generic to allow a definite identification, but it may be on the north coast of Kent, near Margate, which is shown on other pages of this sketchbook (see the Introduction).
