The photographic series American Power started with a photographic assignment for the New York Times about a coal-fired power plant in Ohio in 2003. Mitch Epstein worked on the series over the next five years, expanding his project to address the environmental implications of power production and consumption across the United States, and including several images taken in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
