This painting is in oil paint on canvas measuring 838 x 1079 mm (fig.1). The support is composed of a single piece of coarse, plain weave canvas (fig.2). The tacking edges were removed at some time in the past and there may be some reduction in the size of the canvas at the right edge.

The ground is a reddish brown colour. It is quite thickly applied. There does not appear to be a priming.

The painting has suffered considerable wear, particularly in the dark background (fig.3).
