Social Cement

July 2016 – January 2017

Lucy Harrison is an artist based in London, working on collaborative projects in the public realm. She will take up the first artist’s residency in the new Community Room in the Switch House. Involving key community groups from Lambeth and Southwark, she will invite them to take part in events and talks exploring ideas around different ways that people inhabit space and make connections to some of the artworks on display including the Living Cities display. The aim will be to create a welcoming atmosphere in the community room, bring in aspects of the local community and to explore possible uses of the space in future.

The residency will include a range of activities; artist’s workshops, walks and conversations both within the Community Room and the galleries, as well as out in the communities of Southwark and Lambeth. Elements of the groups and their local area will be brought into the Community Room as a changing installation using objects, photographs, ephemera and furnishings.

Lucy will also create a small publication to document the residency, including menus from events, the results of workshops and gallery visits, as well as photographs and film.
