In October 2007, the Young Tate group at Tate Liverpool held a unique one-off event called the Alternative Turner Prize. Designed for, and led by, young people aged 13-25 this energetic event blended serious discussion with tongue-in-cheek humour. On the night, young people took part in an eclectic arty party. They enjoyed jamming with the band Urban Strawberry Lunch, performing at the open mic session, joining a ‘twisted’ art tour, embracing the art propaganda, and just soaking up the atmosphere. This lively multi-arts-club style event was inspired by the history of the Turner prize and the work of the four short listed artists, Zarina Bhimji, Nathan Coley, Mike Nelson and Mark Wallinger.
