Manifesto: Live from Tate Modern is a special live event filmed at Tate Modern and broadcast via satellite to cinemas nationwide. The event will include an introduction from Cate Blanchett featuring artworks in Tate Modern’s collection related to the film, a screening of the film, plus a live on-stage conversation at the gallery with the film’s director, Julian Rosefeldt and editor Bobby Good. This event is moderated by arts journalist and writer Jessica Lack, author of Why Are We 'Artists'? 100 World Art Manifestos (2017, published by Penguin).
Manifesto, starring Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, pays homage to the moving tradition and literary beauty of artistic manifestos, ultimately questioning the role of the artist in society today.
Manifesto draws on the impassioned writings of futurists, dadaists, Fluxus artists, suprematists, situationists, Dogma 95 and other artist groups, and the musings of individual artists, architects, dancers and filmmakers. Passing the ideas of Claes Oldenburg, Yvonne Rainer, Kazimir Malevich, André Breton, Sturtevant, Sol LeWitt, Jim Jarmusch and other creators through his lens, Rosefeldt has edited and reassembled 13 collages of artists’ manifestos from more than 50 original texts.
Book now for this exclusive chance to preview the film and hear from its director ahead of its general release.
