The Joan Jonas: Mystic Knots screening series closes with a programme dedicated to the simultaneously clever and playful puzzles constructed in Joan Jonas's works.
Glass Puzzle reveals a skillful layering of time and space that prompts the viewer to try to imagine all the different techniques used in the process of its staging and recording. Paul Revere, one of Jonas’s two collaborations with artist Richard Serra, pushes the logic of a simple communication system to its breaking point. He Saw Her Burning unfolds in the space between two incongruous accounts of an event, leaving the viewer with the impossible task of trying to fit them together.
Joan Jonas joins us to discuss her work in film and video following this programme, at which point audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions.
