Tate Online together with BT
Working together
BT and Tate have been in partnership since 2000 when BT sponsored the Collection displays at the newly opened Tate Modern. Soon after, seeing the natural link with Tate's 'fifth gallery' BT moved to supporting Tate Online.
Over these past five years BT and Tate have worked together to achieve innovative and interactive online initiatives, promoting the website to audiences worldwide. When BT first started working with Tate, the site was drawing in a mere 100,000 unique users per month. The site now attracts just under one million visitors per month. Tate Online is considered the UK's most popular visual arts website attracting over 7 million unique visitors per year.
Our online partnership helps widen access to the arts and engage new audiences. The joint rationale of 'art for all' is central to the success of Tate Online.
Projects such as placing Tate's entire Turner Bequest online generated headline news due to the discovery of a number of 'lost' Turner works; Tate Tracks invited musicians to compose a new piece of music inspired by a work in the Tate Collection; an interactive online quiz on 1960s art supported the blockbuster Art & the 60s exhibition, and the BT Series introduces the unique 'reverse interview' where visitors can 'ask' artists such as Tracey Emin about the motivation behind their work. Together we have attracted a raft of online awards for our work with access projects, web design and arts online.
The joint aim for BT and Tate is to constantly challenge, review, refine and enhance the site in collaboration to keep it fresh and alive.
