The London Consortium
The London Consortium is a postgraduate programme in Humanities and Cultural Studies, leading to an MRes or PhD degree from the University of London. It is a collaboration between the Architectural Association, Birkbeck College (University of London), the Institute of Contemporary Arts and Tate. It aims to promote rigorous multi-disciplinary study based around innovative courses - followed by MRes students and first year PhD students - on topics ranging from sound art to Stoicism. The current taught courses are: 'Catastrophe', 'Cultures of Collecting', 'St. Paul', 'Flat Baroque: Special Effects and the Rigging of the Whole Wide World' and 'Godard's Contempt: Text and Context'.
Steven Connor is Academic Director, Colin MacCabe is Associate Director, Anthony Julius is Chairman and Richard Humphreys (Tate) is Vice-Chairman. Faculty consists of distinguished artists, writers and academics from all over the world. The students and faculty of the London Consortium participate actively in the programming of talks, events and conferences at Tate and the other participating institutions.
