Universities of Central Lancashire, the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, Manchester Metropolitan University and Staffordshire University: The Postgraduate Module at Tate Liverpool: Contemporary Curating

The Postgraduate Module inn Contemporary Curating replaces the former University Network Programme at Tate Liverpool and consists of three distinct strands: teaching, research and exchange. The module aims to extend postgraduate research and debate in the Northwest among students of fine art, curating and visual culture, using primarily the resources to be found at Tate Liverpool and other organisations in the city.

The seminar series 'Contemporary Curating: The Artist, the Curator and the Exhibition' covers topics such as 'Contemporary Art and the City', 'The Exhibition and the Experiential', 'Structuring the Exhibition; Architecture and the Art Museum' and 'Time, Duration and the Moving Image' It is taught by Dr. Steven Gartside (MMU) and visiting lecturers from arts organisations in the city.

Research forums, a major part of the programme, are platforms for MA and PhD students in the region to present and debate their research. Forums are chaired by visiting academics and deal with broad issues relevant to temporary exhibitions at Tate Liverpool.

Exchange evenings are the most informal element of the programme. They are student run and concentrate on debating and discussing different aspects of contemporary exhibitions in the region. They are also attended by guest curators. The Postgraduate Module began in February 2007 and is coordinated by Jean Tormey and Dr. Steven Gartside, MMU.
