Tate has been awarded two new collaborative doctoral studentships by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Two students will be recruited to work on the following topics from October 2009:
J.M.W. Turner and German Romanticism: The Influence of German Thought on the Work and Reception of Turner. This project will highlight an important international context for the Turner collection and inform the work of the Turner cataloguing team. (Tate supervisor: David Brown, Tate Britain. Academic supervisor: Matthew Potter, University of Leicester.)
Drawing Strategies in the 1960s and 1970s. This project will examine a range of drawing strategies that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s in Europe and the USA, focusing in particular on the ARTIST ROOMS collection. Alongside working on his/her dissertation, the student will write a number of short texts on individual works. (Tate supervisor: Mark Godfrey, Tate Modern. Academic supervisor: Briony Fer, University College London.)
Further details will be made available on Tate's website and on the websites of the two universities.
