The Library Collection

Tate Library
Tate Library and Archive Reading Rooms

The Library covers the same areas as Tate Collection (British art since 1500 and international art from 1900). Its strengths are modern and contemporary art, with over 40,000 books, more than 140,000 exhibition catalogues and many rare items in its special collections. The emphasis is on fine art in the Western tradition although coverage is being extended to other world areas. Architecture and design are only selectively collected and photography is covered primarily within fine art practice.

Tate Library also lends to other UK (not overseas) libraries via an inter-library loans scheme. Please see the information for borrowing libraries.
