Special Projects

Recharged

This is a year-long project devised by a team of artists to develop links with three local units supporting young people who have emotional and behavioural difficulties. Participants are visited in their schools, units or formal youth settings by artists who have experience in engaging hard-to-reach young people. The project seeks to build integrated provision for young people on the margins of the education services in Southwark and Lambeth. Sessions involve the input of Raw Canvas, Tate Modern's young people's programme and dovetails with Raw Canvas' events programme.

Early Start

Early Start is a programme of three mini exchange projects for local nursery groups, and consists of nursery- and gallery-based sessions as well as InSET for staff. Developed in partnership with Tate's Family and Community Programmes team, this pilot scheme explores ways in which to enable early years' groups to respond to and enjoy the gallery spaces.

Studio Space

In the build up to the development of Transforming Tate Modern, a series of interrelated residencies will be launched through the Schools Programme at Tate Modern. Taking place in the heart of the Collection displays, these tailor-made projects are designed to explore the idea of the artist's studio as a place for thinking, making and developing. Lasting up to three weeks, each residency will be developed in collaboration with both the group and the artist.

Looking for Change

Working with three primary schools over a three-year period, Looking for Change involves children visiting Tate Modern to participate in exciting workshops, explore the galleries and make their own art. The project involves volunteers from UBS and a team of artist educators. An exhibition of the students' work takes place every summer.

The Unilever Series: turbinegeneration >

turbinegeneration is the first ever online educational partnership programme to link schools and galleries on an international level. It aims to enhance understanding of cultural practices by bringing together art professionals and students from all over the world. Students share their cultural experiences through a variety of media, from photography, sound, video and dance, to drama and storytelling. We hope that these collaborations will create an international network of long-lasting and meaningful relationships.

Excellence in Cities

Excellence in Cities (EiC) is a complementary study programme for gifted and talented pupils that is delivered four times a year. Both primary and secondary pupils from local schools visit Tate Modern to participate in an intensive two-day course. Students explore a chosen exhibition and the Collection displays, are encouraged to make their own work in response to what they see and curate their own special exhibition at the end of the course.
