Fun & Games
I guess modern art is kinda like marmite – you either
love it or you hate it. Everyone who is part of Raw Canvas
is an art enthusiast, but:
We don't lecture.
We don't know it all.
We don't necessarily expect you to know your Dadaism from
your Vorticism,
We don't think you're clueless either.
We always have a laugh and socialise outside as well as inside
of Tate Modern.
(and make sure we don't leave without our quota of crisps/cakes/fruits
and drinks at meetings!)

Education/Knowledge
Learning about art at school, college or university has one
major drawback – there's not much real art in any of
these institutions! It's much easier to get to grips with
a work of art if you are actually standing in front of it.
If on the other hand, you know nothing about modern art,
Raw Canvas will make you realise that actually, you do. We
have discussions, debates, workshops and events about the
issues that surround modern art, such as Big
Ideas and Art&...
Raw Canvas' peer-led ethos means that you can find out lots
of things you may or may not already know about art, without
feeling like you are in a lesson or lecture. Most importantly,
you get to talk about what you think about modern art.

Raw Canvas is a place where you can be part of a group of

at home in the environment of Tate Modern.
If you become an official part of the Raw
Canvas Team, you get a Tate Staff Pass, which grants you
unlimited access to all Tate exhibitions, as well as the flashy
member's rooms!

New Friendships
Although we sometimes wish it was, modern art isn't everyone's
cup of tea. If your mates aren't up for spending Saturday
afternoons enthusing about the latest work by this or that
artist, then come along to a Raw Canvas event. You won't be
short of someone to go with you to a new exhibition you want
to see.
