Raw Canvas Workshop Leaders Training Course
Jan - March 2001
15 young people spend 12 weeks working with Artist Educator
Esther Sayers and Caro to get a first hand experience of planning,
devising and leading workshops. The course culminates in all
the participants leading an activity and many new friendships
being made.
The newly trained Raw Canvas team decide they need regular
General Meetings to plan and devise the next years' programme
of activities and events, they meet as often as they can and
the Raw Canvas programme begins...
Summer Course: Mongrel - Linker
July / August 2001
Will and Helen work with Mongrel, a web and new media collective,
to create an interactive interface which contextualizes works
in Tate's collection. The course is split into two age groups:
15-17 and 18-23. All the Participants make a CD of their 'Tate
Modern Remix', music, images and sounds guide the viewer around
a new interpretation of the collection.
Hijack
August 2001
Emma and Elisa worked with Alana, hijacking people every Thursday
afternoon in August and challenged their ideas of art. With
mini workshops and discussions participants asked and answered
that age old question WHAT IS ART?!
Warhol Exhibition
August 2001
Celebrity and Infamy The Factory comes to Tate Modern! Using
Andy's techniques the participants explored POP and its Master.

The Day of the Launch
Raw Canvas hosts a day of activities and the A-Z series of
in gallery workshops begins.
Value
This project involved a trip to the Bank of England and to
Tate Stores as well as time spent in the galleries at Tate
Modern exploring ideas about Art as a currency and a commodity.
Raw Canvas worked with contemporary artists Marysia
Lewandowska and Neil Cummings to investigate the idea
of 'value' in relation to art and money.
The Surrealism Exhibition
A Weekend with Will, Helen and Usha, discussing and exploring
the sexy and seductive world of Surrealism.
Ghetto Superstar? with Alana Jelinek, a week long course investigating
the ideologies behind Tate's collection, and questioning the

A-Z's
Throughout the year... the beginning of a beautiful thing.
