Why the Series?
You know the saying, a picture tells a thousand words, with a Big Ideas session;
you get to hear at least a few of those words then look at the pictures that
tell them!
Big Ideas has been going for almost a year now - the format has been really successful.
We have an hour of informal chat with an expert in the field and then we go up
to the galleries and spend an hour or so talking about what we have just learnt
with works of art that illustrate it and extend the argument.
Feedback from our A-Z series showed that lots of people wanted to tackle important
issues within art but in an informal way (not a lecture). Many people enjoyed
questioning established ideas but wanted to be given information as well as the
tools to critique it with so that they could form their own opinions.
These workshops happen on the last Saturday of every other month. Each one will
look at one of the Big Ideas that have informed modern and contemporary art.
Previous Themes explored include:
Workshops are at Tate Modern from 3-6pm on the last Saturday of every other month. No previous knowledge necessary, just a desire to challenge art history!
