Birthday Procession

Wednesday 12 May 2010, 10.45–11.30

Tate Modern's 10th birthday will be celebrated by 150 local school children on a celebratory procession from Borough Market to Tate Modern.

Led by a Samba Band, the festive procession will begin at 10.45 when Southwark Cathedral's bells ring to mark the occasion. Children in the procession will be carrying gingerbread men specially designed by Konditor and Cook, symbolising local, national and international visitors to Tate Modern over the past ten years. On arriving at Tate Modern all of the participating children will take part in a special cake cutting ceremony with Sir Nicholas Serota, artists and friends of Tate Modern.
