Perfume de Violetas (Violet Perfume)
Maryse Sistach, Mexico 2001, 90’, subs, cert 15
Rebellious teenager Yessica is transferred to a new school after she attacks a teacher. She is soon in trouble again for fighting, but also befriends quiet and studious Miriam and the two play together after school. However, Yessica keeps a dark secret: her stepbrother is allowing his friend to brutally rape her in return for money which he spends on trainers at the shop where Miriam’s mother works. This is a gritty tale of a friendship tested to the limits.
