Part of bfi & Tate: Another Road

(Im Lauf der Zeit)
Wim Wenders, Germany 1976, 176’

Two men's paths cross; Robert is fleeing his family and crashes his car into the river where Bruno, an itinerant film projector engineer, is parked. Bruno offers Robert a ride and they embark on a journey along the border of East and West Germany. American rock music dominates their listening, and the images of under-populated, forgotten landscapes recall the wide-open spaces of the United States, creating a tension between story and picture. One of the all-time great road movies.

The bfi & Tate: Kings of the Road film series is screened to reflect themes in the Robert Frank: Storylines exhibition.
