Exile and Retreat

Sunday 28 March 2010, 14.00

Surrealism has been seen as a product of the urban environment, however several of its practitioners worked with semi-rural or garden settings in their work. This screening will look at queer surrealist artists who chose to centre their practice away from the city, developing new settings for desire and engaging with the long history of gardens as erotic spaces. Featuring films by Kenneth Anger, Barbara Hammer, Marie Menken and others.

Curated and presented by James Boaden, University of York.
