The Austrian artist Heimo Zobernig is renowned for his irreverent and playful work, which often uses deadpan humour to reconsider sculpture, video, painting, installation, performance, display, and Zobernig's own image as an artist.

This video (Video für Martin Kippenberger, Austria 1997, Video, Colour, Sound, 27') is the result of Zobernig's deep sorrow over the death of the artist Martin Kippenberger. It is a dark, elegiac meditation with music, monochrome colour, long blonde wigs, texts written and spoken by Zobernig, and video footage of Kippenberger's funeral. Zobernig laid down special conditions for the presentation of this video: it must be shown on a large screen with high volume sound. The public is to remain standing.
