Poetry from Art
Three poetry-writing courses led by award winning poet Pascale Petit.
Modern art offers fertile starting points to fire the imagination and create surprising poems. These courses are an opportunity to write poems in response to displays and exhibitions in the galleries. As well as trying out plenty of creative writing exercises we will discuss how to shape and edit material into finished poems. There will be friendly group feedback of work in progress and we’ll read some contemporary poets for inspiration.
Each course lasts six weeks and is independent of the other courses. You can do one, two or all three terms. All three are designed to have a cumulative effect, to guide you from producing first drafts to readying poems for final publication. Each term will also include either a public reading or online/print publication.
Here is a chance to encounter Tate Modern’s magical setting in the evening when the galleries are quiet, when you can embark on an intimate dialogue with international masterpieces to develop your own poetry in unexpected directions.
The courses are open to both beginners and experienced writers.
