TATE MODERN

TATE MODERN

Welcome to Tate Modern's Community Programme
The Community Programme at Tate Modern, is a unique opportunity for new adult audiences to engage with our large collection of modern and contemporary art. We also have specific programmes for groups and individuals that live in Southwark or Lambeth.
The programme is aimed at a varied range of Adult Community Groups and individuals - e.g. women's groups, homeless groups, learning disability groups-, community group leaders, community group advocates, local parents and pre-school children, senior citizens as well as individuals living in Southwark or Lambeth.
The entire content of the Community Programme is developed and delivered by highly skilled professional Artist Educators who are practising artists as well as experienced educators. They will take you on a great journey through the exciting world of art.
There are lots of free programmes, activities and events that are open to you if you live in Southwark or Lambeth or if you are part of a community group some of which provide inspiring ways of engaging with modern and contemporary art and Tate as a resource.

Art Into Life

Discover Tate Modern, receive a warm welcome and take part in a free informal introduction to Britain’s national museum of modern art. Led by friendly and experienced staff, Art into Life workshops are a unique opportunity to explore the art world and to get involved in it.

Everyone is very welcome because our programme is not only particularly suitable for community groups new to gallery going, but also to groups from a wide range of backgrounds. In fact our regular group visitors include: Access groups in Further Education, elders organisations, mental health service user groups and community centres. Our Staff also have extensive experience of working with adults with learning difficulties.

Each session is tailor-made to suit all interests and abilities and might involve looking, talking, simple practical activities and the use of handling objects.

To book call:
Tate Box Office on 020 7887 3959 at least 2 weeks in advance.

Community Advocates Programme

This programme builds links between key individuals who represent a wide range of communities- including individuals who work at grass roots and at senior management levels- and Tate. All the participants live or work in our neighbourhood: Southwark, Lambeth and Tower Hamlets. The Community Advocates Programme aims to give a broader understanding of Tate Modern and in return participants give a presentation about their work and who they represent within their community. The programme is intended to be the beginning of an ongoing relationship between the advocates and Tate Modern. Regular celebration events take place throughout the year with all advocates.

To book call Alison on 020 7401 5069.

Seniors Events

Three times a year Tate Modern runs free events for seniors who live in Southwark or Lambeth. Senior events are very informal get-togethers led by Michaela Ross, Artist Educator and other experienced Tate staff. Refreshments are provided, as well as the opportunity to look at some artworks in the gallery and to meet new people. These events are aimed at individuals; hence you do not need to come as a group. Most importantly, you do not need to be an 'art expert' as these events are particularly suitable for those new to gallery-going or new to modern and contemporary art. Annual workshops are also organised as part of local and national festivals that celebrate age.

To book call Akiko Usami on 020 7401 5068
