Parking spaces and wheelchair provision

Limited Pay and display parking is available inside the Albert Dock Gates near The Pumphouse public house (100m distance) or outside the Britannia Pavilion (100m distance).

There is a substantial number of charged for blue badge parking bays on the groundfloor of the adjacent Echo Arena multi-storey car park ( 300 m distance).

Concessionary Tickets and Carers' Entry

Tate offers to all visitors with a disability a concessionary rate to enter the exhibitions at all four galleries. Carers entrance is free. Concessionary rates vary and are listed on the individual exhibitions’ ticketing pages.

Stools are available in the galleries. Please ask a member of staff or at the Information Desks.

Baby Care

There are two baby care rooms at Tate Liverpool, with a full range of facilities.

There is a separate baby change room in the basement as well as baby change facilities in the disabled toilet on the ground floor (next to the Foyer desk).

A hearing loop is available in most parts of the Gallery.


Arrival

There are no steep gradients on approaches to Tate Liverpool. There is level access to the gallery. The main revolving doors are automatic. The two side doors also open automatically and are push pad operated. The doors are single width. The door opening is 110cm wide.

Main Entrance and Reception

The reception desk is 3m from the front entrance and is is medium height. There is level access to reception from the entrance. Lighting levels are bright. Seating is available in the Foyer.

Available: Braille, Large Print, Audio

Tate Liverpool provides a range of interpretative material including information panels, labels and leaflets. All leaflets are available in Braille, large print and audio (personal stereos are available on request) from the Information Desk. We can also provide various colours of transparent overlays, which may benefit some customers with dyslexia when reading black-on-white text. Foreign leaflet guides are also available in French, Spanish, Italian German and Japanese.

Large-print captions are available in the exhibitions and displays at all four levels.

In addition, a hearing loop system is available in the Foyer, Group Reception Room and Auditorium. A small portable loop system is available for use in other event spaces. A Crystal mini loop is also available on request.

Tate Liverpool staff are trained in all aspects of visitor care and are here to help during your visit. Our Front of House staff can offer information on artworks, the building and the facilities etc. Please ask for their assistance

Public Areas

The floors which are accessible by stairs are B-G-1-2-4. There are 15 plus steps between floors. The lighting level is bright. The steps are clearly marked and are medium height. There are handrails on both sides. There is a landing. Only floors B-G-1-2-4 are accessible to the general public.

There are lifts for public use. They are located opposite the main entrance. They are standard lifts. The floors which are accessible by these lifts are B-G-1-2-4 in the right hand pasenger lift and G-1-2-4 in the left hand passenger lift. They are 12m from the accessible entrance. Staff do not need to be notified for use of the lifts. The dimensions of the lifts are 1.24m x 1.23m. There is a mirror in each lift to aid reversing out. The lifts have a visual floor indicator, Braille markings and an audible announcer. The external call buttons are at a low level. The lighting level in the lifts is bright.

Public Areas (WC)

There are adapted toilets within Tate Liverpool designated for public use. They are not for the sole use of disabled people. The nearest adapted toilet is 10.5m from the accessible entrance on the ground floor off the Foyer (near the Information Desk). Other adapted toilets are located in the basement next to the lift and between the galleries at the north end on the first and second floors.

All adapted toilets are unisex. A key is not required. The door to the ground floor adapted toilet opens inwards and is locked by a locking handle. There is a lateral transfer space. As you face the toilet pan the transfer space is on the left. The lateral transfer space is 1m.

The tap type is lever. There is a functional emergency alarm available. There is a coat hook. The coat hook is within 122cm from floor level. Wall mounted rails are available. As you face the toilet the wall mounted grab rails are on both sides.

The height of the toilet seat above floor level is 45cm. There is a hand dryer which is not placed higher than 130cm. There is a toilet roll holder which is not placed higher than 100cm. There is a sink which is not placed higher than 74cm.

The contrast between the walls and floor is good. Wall mounted and drop down rails are available.

Standard toilets are available. The female toilets are located next to the lift in the basement. They are 15m from the accessible entrance. The male toilets are also located in the basement next to the lift. They are 16m from the accessible entrance. There is level access to both and the lighting levels are bright.

Baby change facilities are located within the adapted toilet on the ground floor in the Foyer and in the basement next to the ladies standard toilet.

Café

There is level access to the Cafe. Assisted service is available. There is ample room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre. No tables are permanently fixed. No chairs are permanently fixed. The distance between the floor and the lowest dining table is 70cm. Menus are clearly written and presented in contrasting colours. They are hand held and available in large print. The type of food served is hot & cold meals & snacks.

Shop

There is level access to the Shop. There is ample room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre.

Event Spaces

Functions take place on the 4th floor in the Boardroom, Concourse and Auditorium. This area has separate lift and toilet access. Event spaces are also available on the ground floor.

Exhibitions

Touch tours of an exhibition are available with prior booking. Seating is available within the galleries. Portable folding stools are available on request. Accessible multimedia tours are available for summer top floor exhibitions.
