TATE LIVERPOOL

The Politics of Place: Tate Liverpool Schools’ Turner Prize

Background info on the exhibition:

The Politics of Place: Tate Liverpool Schools’ Turner Prize is the fifth annual schools’ exhibition at Tate Liverpool.

The exhibition will take place in the first floor Education Studio, from 9 January – 11 January 2008, with a Private View on Tuesday 8 January.

The exhibition will present works of art inspired by the Turner Prize 07 exhibition at Tate Liverpool.  All the artists whose work is exhibited are pupils from primary and secondary schools in the UK.

History of Schools’ Exhibitions at Tate Liverpool

Each year the schools’ exhibition has developed as part of Tate Liverpool’s Teachers’ Network, a group formed in 2002 to act as a forum for local and regional teachers from all sectors to participate in a dialogue with the Gallery. Teachers from the group have worked with the Education team at Tate Liverpool to develop this strand of the Schools programme, encouraging young people to engage with and respond to exhibitions and displays at Tate Liverpool.

The Tate Liverpool Teachers’ Network schools will be invited to exhibit work in this exhibition, and this year we are ALSO accepting submissions from other schools around the UK.  We have room for approximately 6 additional art works/submissions from schools throughout the UK.

Requirements for art work to be considered for the exhibition:

  1. All participating schools this year have must have visited the Turner Prize 07 exhibition.
  2. The art works should be produced at school in response to the exhibition as the exhibition will display creative responses to Turner Prize 07.
  3. The works submitted may be produced in any media.
  4. Each school may enter a maximum of 5 works of art. A work of art may be produced by one or more pupils – for instance an entire school class might be the artist.
