For his photographic series Beyond Caring, Paul Graham documented Social Security offices around Britain. His detached documentary style amplifies the degradation in these scenes, taken at the time of high unemployment and harsh economic conditions prevalent during the Thatcher era. Graham has described the series as showing places 'where economic decisions and human lives meet head on.' These works represent Graham at his most political, but also reveal his underlying interest in human behaviour and the dynamics of public space.
