Prunella Clough developed a highly personalised visual language that hovered between abstraction and figuration. Clough's paintings frequently depicted urban or industrial motifs. The imposing tower structure of Cooling Tower II 1958 has been simplified to its most basic form, dominating the sky. Her work contributed to an expanding iconography of Britain's industrial landscape.
