Suschitzky was a Viennese émigré and part of an exodus of photographic talent that came to Britain against a backdrop of rising fascism in Europe. From 1937 he worked as a documentary cameraman for Paul Rotha's Strand Film Company. Wherever he travelled he always carried a still camera, producing a remarkable though less well known archive of documentary images. The images displayed here focus on London life. Suschitzky's later career as a cameraman included work for British Transport Films, the National Coal Board Film Unit and also work on fictional feature films.
