Lawrence Weiner
Works in the exhibition
WITH A TOUCH OF PINK, WITH A BIT OF VIOLET
WITH A HINT OF GREEN, 1976
Text on wall
Collection Dorothee and Konrad Fischer
Weiner is motivated by a determination to alter the power balance between artist and audience. His text-based works offer the viewer enormous freedom of interpretation not only with regard to a work's meaning but also its form. While the phrases here fill the mind with colour, they do not provide a recipe for any one correct image or set of images. This is colour without dimension or shape, without specific value or hue. Rather, Weiner offers open-ended ambiguity – 'with a touch of,' 'with a bit of,' 'with a hint of' – and thereby infinite possibility.
