An Introduction to Video Editing

This taster course for artist teachers provides an introduction to some exciting and innovative digital video techniques. Led by filmaker Jackie Passmore, the day will explore approaches through gallery based activity and hands on practical work. It will focus on exciting, newly commissioned work at Tate Liverpool by assume vivid astro focus and hear from the artist about his practice and the creative process behind this project.
assume vivid astro focus is both the pseudonym of this New York based Brazilian artist and the title given to his wide ranging aesthetic project. His work incorporates motifs from popular culture, fine art and other diverse sources, following a strategy that is akin to music sampling.
Participants will have the opportunity during the day to try their hand at video sampling and editing and do some “VJing” of their own in FACT’s media lab. There will also be a chance to find out more about future opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills in new media.
