A Portrait of the Artists as Young Men 1970 Tate © Gilbert and George, 2005 |
Tim Etchells, artist, writer and Artistic Director of celebrated theatre company Forced Entertainment, will lead an intriguing tour of the galleries he has co-curated as part of the new Collection display The DLA Piper Series: This is Sculpture.
Tim Etchells has drawn on his experience to explore the role of sculpture as performance. In this talk Etchells will explore the curatorial rationale in bringing together exciting works from the Tate Collection, with a chance to view the works in the gallery after-hours, including sculptures that perform, performed sculpture and sculptures that invite the viewer to perform.
Alongside his work with Forced Entertainment, established in 1984, Tim has collaborated with a range of other artists, choreographers and writers and has created work in diverse media from performance to video to installation and works on paper. He is also a unique voice in writing fiction and in writing about performance. He has recently been awarded one of two Legacy: Thinker in Residence awards, a one-off initiative between the Live Art Development Agency and Tate Research.
This event is supported by Tate Liverpool Members.
