Looking for Langston, 1988

Wednesday 14 April 2010, 18.30

Isaac Julien's documentary film classic requires little introduction. Exploring the life and career of the poetic Harlem Renaissance figure, Langston Hughes, the film also weaves insights from other eminent Black cultural figures such as, Bruce Nugent, and James Baldwin. Both a document, and a fantasy, Julien's deft portrayal manages the dual feat of bridging the boundaries between experiential film, and mainstream cinema. Queer, Black, and British, Looking for Langston is a film like no other.

Certificate 15.
