Planning Tate Interventions: Activity 1
At this point we made final choices of photos for the postcard set. We also designed the reverse of the postcard, simulating those produced by Tate. As simulating can understandably be mistaken for simply copying, it could be useful to look at an artist who simulates pre-existing objects or aesthetics here, and to consider why people simulate things in terms of trickery, double takes, surprise and subversion. Where does the simulation begin and end? What makes it not an exact copy (i.e. has anything been changed, such as text or the context)? Look at Tate postcards, front and back. Decide as group image titles, typography, order of words, placement etc. Draw out in journals to be inputted into the postcard set. Resources
