The 'Our Picture of Britain' project will take place during the three-week period from 6-24 June.

The success of the collaboration relies on you and your partner teacher working via e-mail in order to schedule the activities in a way that is useful for you and your class. You can make your online collaboration as large or as small as you like - it's up to you. If you only have time for one activity during the three weeks, then focus on that activity. If you plan to do several activities, you can space them out so that you are doing them one by one or all at the same time, whichever suits you best.

Aims of the project

The main aim of the project is for students in different areas of Britain to learn more about their own region and to discover a new region of Britain by collaborating with students in that area. As a result, we have devised several Suggested Activities that you may find useful. Of course, you might come up with other activities that suit the needs of your class and your partner class.

Another aim of the project is to allow the opportunity for cross-curricular activities that will help you achieve some of your curriculum goals. All of the suggested activities list the areas of the curriculum for which they are best suited.

More about the 'Picture of Britain' exhibition

The 'Our Picture of Britain' project is a part of the larger 'Picture of Britain' exhibition, which will run at Tate Britain from 15 June to 4 September, 2005. This exhibition divides Britain into six areas (North, South, East, West, Midlands and Highlands) and explores artists' responses to their environment through paintings, sculpture, books, posters and art objects from the past three hundred years. There will also be a corresponding six-part BBC TV series.
