Activity: create your own Picture of Britain project
The main aim of the 'Our Picture of Britain' project was for students in different areas of Britain to learn more about their own region and to discover a new region of Britain by collaborating with students in that area. Another aim of the project was to allow the opportunity for cross-curricular activities that would help teachers achieve some of their curriculum goals.
Although Tate's Our Picture of Britain Project has now finished, why not create a similar project by forming a link with another school in your region or in another part of the country and finding out about their area.
We have devised these Suggested Activities for teachers and their classes to follow to help plan such a project. Or you could think of your own activity that would capture the spirit of your region.
These suggested activities can be adapted for any age range and can be made as simple or as complex as you wish. You can modify them by adding new ideas or changing some of the instructions. When you are planning your schedule with your partner teacher, make sure that you agree on how you are going to carry out the activity or activities you have chosen, and make sure that you are both clear on any changes.
All of the suggested activities list the areas of the curriculum for which they are best suited.
