Tate Britain - Recommended routes
Start at the Manton Entrance or Millbank Entrance:
- Hide in the shed in the North Duveens
- Have a close look at the Towers in the middle of the Duveens: What materials did the artist use to build them?
- Reveal the truth behind the White Water Line: Has it been created in one continuous movement?
Turn left into room 19:
Rooms 19-28
- Keep spinning around the merry-go-round in room 19.
- Can you stand in the same position as the Torso in Metal and move like a robot? (room 19)
- Can you find the beetle crawling in room 21?
- How many squares can you see in Ben Nicholson’s painting in room 22?
- Can you make a funnier face than Isabel Rawsthorne in Francis Bacon’s painting in room 26?
- Walk on tip-toes like the dancers in Allen Jones’ painting in room 27.
- Sing your favourite song in front of the music installation (Love me tender, room 28).
Go from room 28 diagonally across the Duveens to room 1:
Rooms 1-17
- Have a look at the costumes in room 2: If you had lived in these times what would have been your favourite outfit for your family and yourself?
- How many horses can you find on the pictures in room 5?
- Watch out for the storm in room 9 by Francis Danby’s painting The Deluge.
- Where do you think The Lady of Shalott is sailing to (room 15)?
- Have a look at the dots on the mosaic floor: Do they tell a story?
Finally, if you’ve still got the energy you are visiting at the weekend, during half term or in August, you can discover the Art Trolley somewhere in the gallery and make your own art.
